We made it through our first road trip!

I know, an hour and a half in the car may not seem like a road trip to many people. But to Bruce and I, this was a daunting task. Thanks to Alan's new found tolerance of the car, it was finally possible. We got to see lots of family in one short weekend!
We left Brandon around 9 am and Alan took his nap in the car! We made it just in time for him to wake up and meet his Grandpa Gillon. This was a long overdue visit. Grandpa joined us for a visit with Granny and Papaw Gillon as well. We then drove straight through town to the country. Grandma Pinnix was working, and Alan was in major need of a nap. There was no way he would have been sweet or even tolerable for a visit in town. Because of this, we headed out to Grandmother and Papaw's. Alan got a good 30 minute nap in the car and was recharged to visit with his great-grandparents.
I was anxious to see how would react to Papaw. I was so thrilled at how well Alan took to him! Alan could hardly take his eyes off of Papaw all weekend. And yes, to Grandmother's shagrin, Papaw ended up getting most of Alan's smiles. I'm okay with that.
We spent lots of time outside. We already knew that was the place Alan was happiest, and the weather was wonderful. On Friday afternoon, we sat in the swing and visited while Bruce helped Papaw with the garden. They picked okra and Bruce got some shots of Papaw tilling under his corn field.
I was very anxious about how Alan would sleep in a new place. We took his pack and play to help with the transition. He was such a good boy and slept through the night!
The mornings were so cold! We got dressed Saturday morning to go for a walk. (We dressed as normal in t-shirts and shorts.) Oh... my... goodness... We did not stay outside very long. We were both freezing! Alan was a good sport about it. But he seemed to like the walk even despite the cold.
We decided that since Alan had done so well on the car ride up, that we should plan to head home at nap time on Sunday morning. I had such a great time visiting with my family that it was tough to leave. Especially knowing what the next week had in store.
They... grow up so fast. :')
ReplyDeleteSounds like such a fun weekend! I love it when we get to fly home to see family. The pictures in this post are great, Rebecca!
